The Petersen Performance Lab Youth Tri Team was developed to encourage youth to become more active in a fun team oriented atmosphere through the sport of triathlon. The Team is focused on inspiring kids to be the best they can be. The team will encourage sportsmanship, camaraderie, and develop youth to perform to the best of there ability.
Coach Brett Petersen
Brett has been a competitive triathlete since 1998, and has been working with athletes for the last eight years. He is the Northwestern University Triathlon Team Head Coach, USA Triathlon Level II Triathlon Coach, USA Cycling Level II Coach, Serotta Certified Bike Fit Technician, FIST Certified Bike Fit Technician. He also holds a Masters in Movement Sciences (Combination of Exercise Physiology and Kinesiology), and has completed all course requirements for Master's degree in Psychobiology, as well as for a Doctorate in Pharmacology
Brett is the only International Triathlon Union (ITU) Coach in Chicago, who's focus isn on athlete development and only one of four in the U.S. He believes that the best coach uses a combination of solid scientific principles and the art of coaching to assist the athlete in reaching his or her full potential in the sport of triathlon.
Coach Jessica Niekrasz
Jessica is certified by USA Triathlon as a Level 1 Coach as well as a Youth and Junior Coach. Not a life long athlete, Jessica embraced triathlon after the birth of her son and in the process shed over 90 pounds. She loves helping athletes reach their goals: from getting started to setting a personal record.
An age group athlete and active mom, Jessica understands the importance of finding balance between training and real life. She is dedicated to health and wellness for all ages and believes in combing competitive sport with a healthy lifestyle. Enjoying good heath and fitness with lots of fun is essential beginning at an early age in order to continue learning and enjoying sport through adulthood. Whether working with newbies or age group athletes, she has a strong sense of how to challenge without pushing too far.
