Kids aged 7-19 have the opportunity to learn swimming, biking and running skills with a triathlon team based in Western Springs. The Petersen Performance Lab (PPL) Youth Triathlon Team includes two to three practices each week focused on triathlon skills, such as bike handling, run technique, transitions and swim skills. The training emphasis is on skill development while having fun!
The PPL Youth Triathlon Team and the sport of triathlon helps kids develop core life principles such as confidence, patience and determination. Team participation also helps kids learn goal setting skills, foster academic growth, develop leadership skills, and cultivate a healthy lifestyle.
The Petersen Performance Lab coaches have extensive experience in athlete development, including coaching youth, junior, and collegiate athletes; coaching athletes of all abilities-beginner to professional level and hosting development clinics and camps. The coaches of Petersen Performance Lab are all parents. Head coach, Brett Petersen, is one of only a handful of International Triathlon Union (ITU) Coaches in the U.S. and the only one in the Chicago land area. ITU is the worldwide governing body of triathlon and its focus is on athlete development, including Olympic athlete development. Coach Brett is the former head coach of the USAT Mideast Elite team, founder and head coach of Petersen Performance Lab, founder and officer of the Salt Creek Triathlon Club, and is the head coach of the Northwestern University Triathlon Team. All coaches of Petersen Performance Lab are USA Triathlon Youth and Junior Certified coaches, which includes testing and background checks.
